Boost for Scotland ahead of Title Clash

SRL to benefit with £50,000 cash injection from MatchPoint.

As Scotland gear up for a crucial clash with France in Galashiels which could see them win the European Championship title for the first time, the grassroots level of the game has received a welcome financial boost.

Edinburgh-based corporate hospitality specialist MatchPoint has announced a £50,000 sponsorship deal with the Scottish Rugby League, aimed at helping the development of the sport in Scotland as well as supporting the national team in international tournaments such as the European Championships, the 2016 Four Nations and the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

The announcement couldn’t come at a better time, with the Scottish team tantalisingly close to making history. Having enjoyed back-to-back victories over Wales and Ireland, Scotland will win the European Championship for the first time if they beat or draw with France in Galashiels tonight (Friday 31 October). A defeat would see the title be decided on points difference, with Ireland entering the equation.

The four-year deal marks MatchPoint’s continuing investment in Scottish Rugby League, with the firm having sponsored the Scotland team at the 2013 RLWC and the Under 19 team at this year’s Commonwealth Games. With offices on both sides of the globe, MatchPoint also has strong ties with governing bodies in Australia, having formed partnerships with the likes of the Queensland Rugby League and National Rugby League.
