Australian Bravehearts Support Scotland Rugby League

The ‘Bravehearts’ will once again take to the field to battle it out with Australia, England and world’s number one side New Zealand at the 2016 Four Nations next month. Determined to be very competitive against all three opponents, the team have been planning for the tournament since early 2015.

Neil Cunningham, Group Managing Director of MatchPoint said: “We have been proud to sponsor Scotland rugby league since 2012 and are very excited about seeing the team don the MatchPoint Tartan kit and get back in action after a hugely successful World Cup 2013 campaign. Their achievements on the pitch will hopefully translate to more people taking up the sport in Scotland, which was the main reason for our sponsorship.”

As part of the world cup planning, Head Coach, Steve McCormack and Assistant Coach, Dave Rotherham visited Australia to meet with some potential members of the squad and also spent some time in the New South Wales State of Origin camp to see what lessons they could learn.

Chairman Keith Hogg also spent some time in Sydney, Brisbane, The Gold Coast and Townsville following up with the players, their agents and officials at their respective clubs.

Keith Hogg said “Our participation in the 2016 Four Nations is a very exciting opportunity for Scotland Rugby League. We have been planning for the tournament for over 12 months and as part of this we have been in contact with a number of players in Australia. Some have played for Scotland before, some haven't. All have a real desire to represent Scotland, the country of their parents or grandparents birth. Our squad will be mainly UK based but we are very excited about the ability, experience and commitment to the Scottish cause that those players based in Australia can bring to our squad."

The 2013 World Cup squad attracted many NRL stars such as Peter Wallace, Luke Douglas and Kane Linnett, something that Scotland are hopeful for once again this year and in next year’s 2017 World Cup hosted in New Zealand & Australia.
